Hike / Hike Guide Off-Season Program

A structured 16-week strength and durability program built specifically for hiking guides and mountain professionals preparing for the demands of a full season on the trail.

Across three progressive phases, this program develops the qualities that matter most for guiding on foot: lower body strength, trunk endurance, pack tolerance, balance, movement quality, and the ability to handle long days on uneven terrain without breaking down. The progression begins by rebuilding stability and capacity, then moves into greater strength, power, and work capacity, before finishing with a performance phase that helps translate that work into more efficient, confident movement in the mountains.

Delivered through Bridge Athletic in a playlist-style format, sessions can be moved around your week to fit work, life, and shoulder-season training while still giving you a clear progression to follow.

Who It’s For

This program is for hiking guides, backpacking guides, and mountain professionals who want to head into the season feeling stronger, more durable, and better prepared for the cumulative physical demands of the job.

It is a strong fit for guides who spend long days on their feet, regularly carry loads, travel over variable terrain, and want to feel more capable on climbs, more controlled on descents, and less worn down over the course of a busy week in the mountains.

What to Expect

You can expect a progressive build across three phases.

Foundation focuses on stability, capacity, and movement quality to rebuild your base and prepare your body for higher training demands.

Progression develops maximal strength, power, and work capacity to improve force production, resilience, and efficiency on steep ascents and descents.

Performance brings those qualities together in a way that supports stronger, more controlled movement across unpredictable terrain and helps you hold up better through the repeated demands of guiding.

By the end of the program, you should feel stronger under load, more stable on uneven ground, and better prepared to guide day after day through a full season in the mountains.
